PEOPLE IN ART  



Be it or figurative artwork - within this select group we present artists that are in the National Portrait Gallery  Canberra, have been winners and finalists in awards such as the Shirley Hannan $50000 Portrait Prize, Archibald Packing Room , Black Swan, Alice Bale, Norma Bull, The Mortimer, and the Australian Art Excellence Medallion. This is a preview of some of the images from the exhibition.  We encourage you to visit the exhibition before it closes on Sunday, 14th July 2013.


Joseph Attard

Joe has won many awards, most notably

  • the Alice Bale Award for oil painting

  • the John Balmain Award for figure drawing;

  • the Tom Roberts Award for portraiture, (Heidelberg Heritage Artists);

  • AGRA Best in Show Winter;

Terrianne Murray

Terrianne has received numerous awards including The Australian Art Excellence Medallion, The Ming MacKay Award and has exhibited throughout Australia and Internationally.


Barbara McManus

Barbara has been the recipient of more than 50 art awards including in 1986 the AME Bale Over Seas Scholarship.
This award presented Barbara with the opportunity to visit the World’s most famous art museums, absorb European culture, participate in workshops in Wales and Cornwall, and sketch her way through the British Isles, Russia, Spain, Portugal, and Morocco; parts of Scandinavia, and Central Europe.  During this time her work was included in the International Patel Exhibition in Lille, France in 1987.

and “Who’s Who in Australia sand the Far East”.   She was also a finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize in 1990.

Barbara spent eight years with The Victorian Artists Society Council and teaching staff, and was their Artist of the Year.  She was made A Fellow in the same year.

Vivi's work is gaining recognition and has been gathering awards over the past few years.

Dawn Stubbs

Dawn has been a notable wildlife artist for many years winning numerous awards and has turned her art towards portraits. She was a recent finalist in the Blake Prize for Religious art and was Winner of the Black Swan Award 2012

Rosemary Todman Parrant

Numerous awards including

Her Oil Portraits  hang in Monash University, Vision Australia, Anzac house , private schools and homes.


Cathy Van Ee

Cathy van Ee has had diverse experience in image making as an artist and designer.

Her industry experience includes an extensive career as a book designer & illustrator for Penguin Books Australia, five years in Philatelic for Australia Post selecting designers and artists from around Australia for our postage stamps, and 4 years the Manager of the Walker St Gallery in Dandenong.
She is now teaching drawing and painting
