Barbara has been the recipient of more than 50 art awards including in 1986 the AME Bale Over Seas Scholarship.
This award presented Barbara with the opportunity to visit the World’s most famous art museums, absorb European culture, participate in workshops in Wales and Cornwall, and sketch her way through the British Isles, Russia, Spain, Portugal, and Morocco; parts of Scandinavia, and Central Europe. During this time her work was included in the International Patel Exhibition in Lille, France in 1987.

Barbara spent eight years with The Victorian Artists Society Council and teaching staff, and was their Artist of the Year. She was made A Fellow in the same year. She was also a finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize in 1990 and won the Australian Guild of Realist Artists' inaugral Australian Art Excellence Medallion in 2000.
